A little about the town...
Shattuck, with a current population of nearly 1300, is the largest town in Ellis County. Most of the land around Shattuck was settled under the Homestead Act of 1894. The town was incorporated in 1906 and was named after George O. Shattuck, a director of the Santa Fe Railroad.
A look at the people...
Shattuck is known as a town with a vision for survival and willingness to try new ideas. Primary industries are agriculture, oil and natural gas, with a strong possibility of the addition of ethanol. One of the finest medical facilities in Northwest Oklahoma is located here, as well as dental and optometric offices, plus two pharmacies and a veterinary clinic. There is an outstanding school system for educating our young people. A new discount department store was completed in November 2007, a grocery store built in 2003, a busy car dealership and bustling downtown with a wide array of services, quality eateries and unique retail draw shoppers from a large area.
Achievements of a growing city...
Shattuck is recognized as an Oklahoma Century Community and an active Main Street town. The town boasts an updated infrastructure with new downtown sidewalks and street lights, an updated sewage treatment system and renovated sports facilities. Two downtown buildings have been recognized by Oklahoma Main Street Center for outstanding facade renovations and the Stuart Memorial Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Shattuck National Bank Building.
